Background: Adventure Racing evolved out of single sport enthusiasts who became bored with just one event like Running, or Mountain Biking and wanted to push the limits of Multisport training and competing. What’s different about Adventure Racing versus other Multisport events like Triathlons is that generally the events are off road. This adds an element to the event that becomes the essence of Adventure Racing – the ability of the participant to alter their route, and even game plan to adjust to the course. There can be many events linked together in the Adventure Race. NMARC is looking for volunteers to lead training sessions.  We need beginners, intermediates, and advanced Adventure Racers.  It’s a great chance to train, meet others who love the outdoors and help the club.  If you agree to become a Club Captain  NMARC will: Pay for your First Aid training and certificate($35 value) Give you training on how to lead a successful training session. Will not be responsible if you meet nice people who like to train also May pay for advanced training or certificates in a field as needed. Give you a $5 credit towards next years membership dues. Adventure Racing is an outdoor endurance sport where teams of up to four individuals race to a series of checkpoints while navigating with a map and compass. While there is no standard format, races typically involve the four core disciplines of: * Orienteering * Mountain Biking * Kayaking * Trekking (Trail Running/Hiking) Other disciplines that may be found in an adventure race include: * Ropes (Rapelling/Ascending/Tyrolean Traverse) * In-Line Skating or Scooters * Swimming * Horseback Riding * Special Team or Mystery Events Races usually fall under one of the following four categories : 2-4- hour- sprint race:  These races usually consist of 2-5 miles trekking, 5-10 miles biking, and 1-2 miles kayak, and special team events.
